BILLINGS, Mont. — Located in the heart of the West … the gateway to history … the gateway to bringing the past to the present … the Billings Hotel and Convention Center is proud to sponsor the Championships of America’s first extreme sport and the world’s most explosive sport – Indian Relay Racing! Thirty warriors, 90 war ponies and 120 fearless braves all vie for the coveted championship buckles, prize money and “bragging rights” at the true world champion of Indian Relay – the All Nations Indian Relay Championships this Sept. 17-20, 2015.
Since 1972, the Billings Hotel has hosted families and conventions from around the world, and has shown them the western hospitality and attention that has made them a true destination hotel in Billings, Mont. This September, the All Nations Championships will come to Billings for the first time, celebrating the horse nations with Indian Relay fans. It is only fitting that the Billings Hotel and Convention Center, with its large pool of rooms and meeting facilities, plays host to the event. Being an important Native American event, attracting tribal delegates and leaders from many nations, it is logical that tribes and tribal organizations schedule meetings and events in conjunction with the important Relay Championships. The Billings Hotel is the perfect facility to host this important event and its ancillary meetings.
When asked why the Billings Hotel sought to support the All Nations Championships, General Manager Ron Spense said, “This is a world-class event that is perfect for Billings. Billings is a tribal center for the Indian Nations of Montana and they are an important part of our heritage and economy. Indian Relay is so exciting and with a facility like the Metra and support of the community, we know this will quickly become an important global event attracting customers from around the world. We see and share the vision. When we learned this important event was headed for Billings we knew we wanted to be involved.”
Gary Fellers, one of the directors of the Professional Indian Horse Racing Association (PIHRA), organizers of the championships commented, “The Billings Hotel and Jeff and Ron have been incredible. They were the first ones in the community to reach out to us. They invited us in, made us feel welcome and we knew it was the right place to have as home for the Championships and Indian Relay. They have the facilities to host the associated conferences and activities that will develop and we have a presence there running our operations and as host hotel for the event. [The Hotel] is a wonderful partner for Indian Relay.”
