Mt. Rainier, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Transportation and Mt. Rainier National Park have announced Cayuse Pass and Chinook Pass will open early this year, tentatively March 27, and April 3 respectively, which means visitors will be able to enjoy Spring Break; Easter activities; National Park Week, and Fee Free Days at Mt. Rainier National Park this April, with more road access, and at a discount!
"Visit Rainier had already named April 'A Mountain of Savings' month for its overnight visitors," said Mary Kay Nelson, executive director of Visit Rainier. "With Cayuse and Chinook Passes opening early, the deal is even sweeter as 16 lodging properties and Northwest Trek are offering a 25 percent discount to their mid-week rates, throughout April."
Stevens Canyon Road in Mt. Rainier National Park will remain closed until at least Memorial Day weekend due to debris removal, but folks can easily encircle the mountain by utilizing Skate Creek Road (Located between Packwood and Ashford).
"Traveling around the mountain in a full loop is something that usually happens later in the year," said Nelson. "This is a treat to get a jump on the summer season and go before the crowds arrive. If folks utilize the Visit Rainier Driving Tour section on our website, they can come up with all kinds of fun travel options."
